History
Supersedes New roads and street works act 1991: Specification for the reinstatement of openings in highways: code of practice. 3rd edition (England) (DfT, 2010); Practical guide to street works (DFT, 2006) and Best practice in street works and highway works (DETR/HAUC, 2001). Came into force 10/05/2021. This edition is for use in England only. For use in Scotland, see: 'New roads and street works act 1991: specification for the reinstatement of openings in roads. Third edition (Scotland)' (Scottish Government, 2012). For use in Wales see: 'Specification for the reinstatement of openings in highways. 2nd edition' (National Assembly for Wales, 2006). Statutory code of practice published under Section 71 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. First published 3 April 2010. Updated 14 May 2020, 24 December 2024 and 30 May 2025 - clarified when guarantee period of reinstatements should be reset after remedial works and cases when cold lay materials can be used.
