Abstract
Gives guidance on car park design and construction, providing a complete revision of the original 'Design recommendations for multi-storey and underground car parks' publication. Split into two parts: conceptual design and detailed design. Part one is mainly for those involved in procuring a car park such as clients, project managers and architects, covering: developing the brief/the design process; feasibility; inclusive design; internal planning (and management of traffic and pedestrians); design geometry and layout; integration of building services; fire considerations; sustainability and environmental considerations; safety and security; and futureproofing. Part two is mainly for those responsible for having input into the detailed design such as structural engineers, civil engineers and services engineers, covering: design and construction; guarding and containment; integration of building services; fire considerations; inclusive design; suicide prevention; quality control during construction; asset management; upgrading and modifying existing structure; and special structures.
