Abstract
Comprises advice on how the adoption of roads in England can be carried out by highway authorities to make them maintainable at public expense. Covers: operation of section 38 agreements; operation of the private street works code - adoption after execution of street works; how the advance payment code works; and road adoption using section 37 of the 1980 Highways Act. Also includes a set of planning conditions which aims to ensure that arrangements for the future management and maintenance of new roads within developments, is confirmed at the planning stage.
