Abstract
Provides an overview of the main obligations and opportunities for planners to promote biodiversity through the four UK planning systems. Looks at why biodiversity is important for planning discussing the key challenges relating to biodiversity and the current statutory duties and guidance that should be addressed through the planning systems. Also provides practical pointers to support local planning authorities in addressing biodiversity via the integration of biodiversity into local policy, practice and individual development schemes through good practice examples.
