Abstract

Discusses the changes in how the Strategic Road Network (SRN) has been used in recent years and the review of the Highways Agency's survey strategy on skid resistance to ensure that the network remains safe and fit for purpose. A literature review confirms the importance of measuring skid resistance in the most heavily trafficked lane. Highlights two issues the surveys have shown regarding skid resistance and suggests changes that should be made by The Highways Agency.
