Abstract
Part of a series considering how planning can help to 'future-proof' society, to enable populations around the world adapt and cope with major challenges ahead in the twenty first century. This paper examines climate change in three key areas: extreme weather, water provision and energy supply, as well as three key areas of demographic change: population growth, ageing populations and social cohesion. Looks at the challenges posed by these areas, showing how planning can respond to these challenges and also provides examples of how planners are responding in practice on a global basis.
