Examines the management, regulatory context, principles and issues of flood risk to critical infrastructure (CI) in the UK. Flood resilience seeks to reduce the impact of floodwater that comes into contact with CI, ensuring there is no permanent damage, that structural integrity is maintained, minimising operational disruption and allowing for rapid recovery when the floodwaters recede. Flood resistance should be achievable with careful design or adaptation of existing assets, and aims to exclude the ingress of floodwater and minimise the disruption to operations. Supported by evidence from case studies. One recommendation looks to the next generation of flood maps which should include information relating to flood defences, hazard registers and to ensure consistent data collation and presentation. Another recommendation suggests creating risk-based framework of standards that are appropriate for the different categories of CI.
