Abstract
Evaluates the current state-of-the-art on intelligent compaction. Reviews basic principles, the current HA requirements for compaction of earthworks, and the development of performance specifications for earthworks. Discusses history and theory. Presents a review of commercially available equipment, encompassing varying functionality. Investigates guidelines for continuous compaction control adopted in countries’ specifications and regulations, together with calibration data obtained from manufacturers and technical publications. Identifies the techniques’ benefits and limitations.
