Abstract

Sets out the Department’s planning policy for development that generates energy from renewable resources and that requires the submission of a planning application. Also encourages the integration of renewable energy technology and greater application of the principles of Passive Solar Design in the design, siting and layout of new development.

History

Will be cancelled by Strategic planning policy statement for Northern Ireland (SPPS) - planning for sustainable development (DOENI, 2015) when all eleven councils have adopted a new Plan Strategy for the whole of their council area. Supersedes Policy PSU 12 in Planning strategy for rural Northern Ireland (DOENI, 1993); and Draft planning policy statement 18 - renewable energy: consultation paper (DOENI, 2007).
