Applies to permanent grandstands with seating decks constructed in structural steel, reinforced or prestressed concrete and combinations of these forms of construction. Relates solely to dynamic action from crowd activity. Relevant for grandstands with seating decks of a supported span greater than 6m or cantilever spans of more than 2.5m. Addresses management’s role, the requirement for specialist engineering expertise, natural frequencies and other dynamic properties, testing, compliance with natural frequency requirements, and design for managed events.
Supersedes 'Dynamic performance requirements for permanent grandstands subject to crowd action: Interim guidance on assessment and design' (2001) and 'Advisory note - Dynamic testing of grandstands and seating decks' (2002).
