Abstract

Analyses different types of median and median barrier accidents where a vehicle struck either an object or a safety barrier in the median resulting in casualties. Compares the relative whole life cost of different classes of safety fence and barrier in relation to installation, general maintenance, repairs following an accident, removal, traffic management and traffic delay, but excludes relocation of services and consequential structural damage. Determines how cost effective high containment barriers are.
