Abstract
There are 22,000 iron and steel bridges in existence in the UK, the earliest dating from 1779. This report examines the statutory requirements for care and maintenance, provides best practice in asset management, illustrates and describes the typical defects and deterioration and gives advice for inspection, testing and monitoring.
