Technical Paper
Presents a literature review. Considers the design procedures developed at Queen’s University of Belfast and the University of Canterbury in New Zealand in detail, together with a typical example of the Queen’s University procedure for predicting the strength of laterally restrained slabs. Explores how the inherent strength of bridge deck slabs, attributed to compressive membrane action, means that lower quantities of reinforcement are necessary: it is possible to produce slabs that are more economical and durable.
Produced by Queen's University, Belfast.
