Introduces the building regulations system for those working on building projects. Section 2 covers what the Building Regulations do, what you need to do, explains the requirements set out in the regulations, approved documents, seeking advice and the selection of a builder. Section 3 deals with applying the regulations in practice including definitions, aspects of the site - drainage, radon and contamination, whether to inform neighbours and when the regulations do not apply. Section 4 covers frequently asked questions about the regulations applying to work you want to carry out. Section 5 covers the local authority and the approved inspector's building control service. Section 6 deals with contravention and enforcement of the regulations.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is now known as the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).
