Abstract
Discusses improving the spaces around residential areas; making residential areas and streets safe; tackling housing-related anti-social behaviour; and designing, managing and maintaining streetscapes. It is divided into four parts: Part 1 provides an introduction and explains the challenge; Part 2 summarises the many responsibilities for looking after residential areas and streets, and the need to work together to spend better; Part 3 highlights some key issues and the tools available to address them, illustrated by practical examples; and finally Part 4 summarises the main actions, responsibilities and powers.
