Abstract
Discusses using planning and design to improve quality; long term management and maintenance; accessing acceptable standards for parks and green spaces; and the role of communities in transforming local parks and spaces. It is divided into four parts: Part 1 provides an introduction and explains the challenge; Part 2 explains how to develop the strategic climate for creating and maintaining quality parks and green spaces; Part 3 explains some key issues and the tools available to address them, illustrated by practical examples; and finally Part 4 summarises actions and powers, along with sources of advice for using them.
