Abstract

Providing new information gathered from several projects working in the Lambeth Group which underlies the London and Hampshire Basins. This information will be useful to any infrastructure developments in central London, such as tunnelling and deep foundations. Improvements have been made to the engineering description and classification and the engineering behaviour and properties of its component units. Guidance is given on the relation between engineering properties and the group’s widely different ideologies, about the hazards they pose for construction, and appropriate ways to overcome them. It also provides recommendations for investigating these complex materials.
