Housing Research Summary

Abstract

Summarises research carried out on the availability and quality of local authority Gypsy/Traveller sites in England. The research was designed to inform the development of policy by strengthening the evidence base and providing up-to-date and statistically reliable information on the size and condition of the current local authority Gypsy/Traveller sites network and the need for new site provision. It looked in some detail at how sites are managed. Other themes were how local authorities deal with Gypsy/Traveller accommodation issues overall; obstacles to new site provision and ways of overcoming them; ensuring the sites provided are sustainable; and the role of the private sector in site provision.
