Planning Policy Statement
Abstract
Sets out the Department's planning policies for the protection and conservation of archaeological remains and features of the built heritage. It embodies the Government's commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
History
Annex B superseded by Criteria for the scheduling of historic monuments and the listing of buildings of special architectural or historic interest, with associated procedures (DFC, 2019). Will be cancelled by Strategic planning policy statement for Northern Ireland (SPPS) - planning for sustainable development (DOENI, 2015) when all eleven councils have adopted a new Plan Strategy for the whole of their council area. Issued by The Planning Service an agency within the DOENI. Annex C superseded by Planning policy statement 6 - planning, archaeology and the built heritage. Revised annex C: criteria for listing (NIEA/DOENI, 2011). This document relates to Addendum to planning policy statement 6: areas of townscape character (DENIPS, 2005).

The Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland's role was to promote sustainable development principles, responsible land use, air and water quality, and waste management, the reduction of road traffic casualties and ensure effective local government.
