Abstract

Project to re-examine the present level of provision of mechanical, electrical, communications, monitoring, traffic control and safety equipment provided in highway tunnels. A value engineering review has been undertaken of highway tunnel equipment, which follows the procedures developed from the Value for Money Manual (Highways Agency 1996a), and comprised a value management and value engineering workshop and subsequent detailed reviews. Contains a methodology for conducting site specific value engineering audits of highway tunnel equipment. Work described in this report has contributed to the drafting of the advice note on highway tunnel maintenance (BA 72).
