Abstract

Volume B deals with one of the more basic building technologies; Loadbearing Monolithic small units. This category divides into three parts, Brick, Concrete block and Stone. Although brick and stone are materials which have been in use for thousands of years, it must be acknowledged that the application of traditional materials in new ways and in new combinations coupled with much greater concerns about thermal performance have created the potential for problems unless the designer has a proper appreciation of how these are to be avoided.
