Provides advice on the Water Framework Directive (WFD) in relation to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) applications, specifically the requirements of the Water Environment Regulations 2017 (the WFD Regulations). Covers: aims of the WFD; duties of the Secretary of State and Examining Authority; relationship with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA); consultation bodies; overview of the WFD assessment process; WFD Stage 1 - screening; WFD Stage 2 - scoping; WFD Stage 3 - impact assessment; identification of water bodies; groundwater bodies; important aspects of a WFD impact assessment; derogations; presentation of information; and other resources.
