Summarises the responses received and presents the government response to the 2017 consultation offering possible solutions to reduce congestion caused during street and road works. Highlighting 2 existing schemes in London and Kent due to end in March 2019, unless regulations are changed. 4 options were suggested: no new schemes are permitted (do nothing option), removing the sunset clause and keeping the lane rental regime as it is for London and Kent (option 1), extend the lane rental scheme to other local authorities, with certain conditions to be met (option 2) and the final option 3 would be to use permit schemes to meet lane rental objectives. The government will proceed with option 2 and allow rental schemes to be extended across the country in a bid to reduce congestion. The sunset clause will also be removed allowing the 2 schemes in London and Kent to continue (option 1).
