Abstract
Comprises research on the use of simplified planning zones (SPZs) and equivalent mechanisms used outwith Scotland, to determine the issues currently affecting the uptake of SPZs and how these may be overcome. Also investigates other potential land use zoning mechanisms that may be more flexible than SPZs, covering the delivery of houses at scale, encouragement of alternative housing delivery models, infrastructure-first approach to development, boosting areas of low market interest, area regeneration and delivering improved placemaking outcomes for communities.
