Abstract

Provides guidance for the selection of surface and sub-surface drainage for UK motorway and trunk roads network. Looking at the selection process, drainage factors to be considered, edge drainage, sub-surface drainage, earthworks drainage, detailed design, pollution and flooding, signing of pollution control devices and implementing a drainage data management system.

Supersedes DMRB 4.2.3 HD 33/06 Surface and sub-surface drainage systems for highways (HA, 2006). DMRB 4.2.3. Design manual for roads and bridges (DMRB). The Highways Agency is now known as Highways England.

Publisher History

Highways England (formerly Highways Agency) was transformed into National Highways in 2021. It was responsible for the operation, maintenance and improvement of England's motorways and major A roads. It was an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Transport.
