Abstract
Looks at how the economic benefits of planning can be properly understood and the role of planners in fostering economic growth through use of spatial planning. Covers: the different perceptions of planning and growth; the current growth policies linked to planning; the importance of planning in securing growth; how to take advantage of existing tools to foster growth. Also outlines a set of recommendations to create economically successful places in the UK and Ireland focusing on; emphasising the strategic approach to planning and the economy; strengthening relationships between developers, planners, politicians and community; acknowledging the importance of place; and implementing customer friendly approaches.
