Comprises Northern Ireland’s second State of the Environment report. Provides a five year update and commentary on forty four indicators across eight themes. Draws together in one place an overall picture of the environment in Northern Ireland and identifies cross-cutting issues to enable the assessment of the effectiveness of environmental policies over the longer term and to base decisions on how the environment is managed and protected.

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency is an agency within the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. They were previously known as Environment and Heritage Service. They advise on and implement the Government's environmental policy and strategy in Northern Ireland, by carrying out a range of activities, which promote the Government's key themes of sustainable development, biodiversity and climate change.
