The Government's response to the review of its world heritage policy to help determine whether the UK should continue to nominate sites for inscription on the World Heritage List and what more can be done for existing sites. The Government has decided to draw up a new UK Tentative List of sites for future nominations as a result of the review.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport are responsible for Government policy on the arts, sport, the National Lottery, tourism, libraries, museums and galleries, broadcasting, creative industries including film and the music industry, press freedom and regulation, licensing, gambling and the historic environment. They are also the Department responsible for 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympic Games. Prior to 1997 they were known as the Department of National Heritage.
