Abstract
The report presents guidelines for the planning and design of highway drainage systems so as to avoid pollution of the receiving waters. These guidelines are intended for immediate practical use by highway drainage designers, and water quality regulators. The report concludes with recommendations for future work to lead to a better understanding of pollution from highway drainage, and for improved practice to reduce the environmental impact of the drainage discharges.
