Abstract
Presents guidance on classifying areas around equipment handling or storing flammable fluids, and provides a basis for the selection of fixed electrical equipment and the location of other fixed sources of ignition. Offers three complementary approaches for classification: the direct example approach, the point source approach, where release rates are dependent on process conditions, and the risk-based approach, an optional methodology for secondary grade releases which may reduce the extent of the hazardous area determined by the point source approach. Updated with clarifications and information from research since the 3rd edition was published.
