Abstract
Conversion of Grade II listed Odeon Cinema to provide new home for the Stephen Joseph Theatre. The front of house restaurant, bar and foyer were restored; the stage of the theatre in the round became a lift; tensile wire lighting grid flies above the whole auditorium; a courtyard/atrium was inserted to bring daylight to offices, workrooms, dressing rooms and the Green Room; the former upper circle has been adapted to provide a studio theatre or cinema. Original architect: Harry Weedon. Refurbishment architects: Osborne Christmas Associates.
