Abstract
Describes the pests that can be found in and around buildings and the problems they cause. It explains the principles for reducing pest infestation by exclusion and reduction of harbourage and food supply. Susceptibility to infestation depends in part upon the location and use of the building and this digest gives guidance on assessing appropriate precautions depending on the level of risk. Design and construction requirements for excluding pests from dwellings and for facilitating the treatment of infestations are suggested. This digest encourages the need for hygiene and tidiness on building sites, particularly in redevelopment areas. More stringent preventive requirements are indicated in areas used for food preparation and storage.
