Abstract

This Code of Practice replaces the 2000 guidance on safe water temperatures, reflecting the evolution of the Thermostatic Mixing Valve Manufacturers Association into BEAMA’s Water Safety and Hygiene group. It provides authoritative guidance on the safe design, installation, operation and maintenance of hot water systems, with a particular focus on thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) for the prevention of scalding, infection control, and product compliance. Applicable to both domestic and non-domestic settings, the document is especially relevant for healthcare, education, leisure, military and commercial sectors, offering a systems-based approach to delivering safe hot water from supply through to point of discharge. It draws upon collective industry expertise and reference publications to ensure practical, accurate and comprehensive guidance without superseding existing legislation or standards.
