BS EN
Provides principles and requirements for the design and verification of geotechnical structures. It can be used for the following: slopes, cuttings, embankments, foundations (shallow, piled), retaining structures, reinforced fill structures, soil nailed structures, anchors, rock bolts, rock surface support, and ground improvement. Can also be used in groundwater control measures, such as reducing hydraulic conductivity, dewatering, infiltration and impermeable barriers.
This document is considered to be a second generation Eurocode and can be used to prepare for the transition from first to second generation of Eurocodes. The first generation Eurocode should be used as the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. The National Annex contains national choices for buildings and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. Supersedes BS EN 1997-1:200A1:2-13, and BS EN 1997-2:2007.
