Abstract
Discusses the Leeds Playhouse undergoing a reconfiguration and extension in 2019 to enhance accessibility and to create a more engaging presence in the city. The project reoriented the theatre towards St Peter’s Street, introducing a new entrance, café, and a striking ceramic façade that reflects the Playhouse’s creativity and diversity. Enhancements included expanded seating, improved accessibility, and the transformation of a basement into a flexible performance space. The design carefully integrates with the existing building using precast concrete elements referencing the historic stone architecture in Leeds, while curtain wall glazing balances visibility and solar control, creating a dynamic connection between the theatre and its urban surroundings.
