Abstract
This article provides an overview of the corrosion process affecting steel piles and discusses their performance in various environments. While steel piles typically do not require corrosion protection, in more aggressive environments, protective measures may be necessary to ensure the structure’s design life is met cost-effectively. The article outlines the conditions that may necessitate corrosion protection and reviews the strategies that can be employed to extend the lifespan of steel piles when needed.
