Abstract
Relates to geotechnical systems in seismic regions, discussing general principles for design and assessment. General rules provided apply to all families of geotechnical structures, foundation design and retaining and underground structures. Basic performance requirements and compliance criteria are given for geotechnical structures and systems in seismic regions.
History
This document is considered to be a second generation Eurocode and can be used to prepare for the transition from first to second generation of Eurocodes. The first generation Eurocode should be used as the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS EN 1998-5:2004.
