Abstract
Comprises planning practice guidance focusing on addressing the impacts of climate change through the identification of suitable mitigation and adaptation measures in the planning process. Covers: the importance of planning in considering climate change; climate change legislation; addressing the challenges of climate change through the Local Plan; integrating adaptation and mitigation approaches; dealing with the uncertainty of climate risks when promoting adaptation in particular developments; evidence of risks arising from climate change available to support local plan-making; identifying appropriate mitigation measures in plan-making; how energy efficiency improvements to existing buildings can be supported; government's national standards for a building's sustainability and for zero carbon buildings; passive solar design; finding out more about climate change mitigation and adaptation; and whether higher energy performance standards than the building regulations can be set in a local plan.
