Abstract

Details design requirements for stiffened and unstiffened plates which are subject to in-plane forces. Also covers the effects due to shear lag, in-plane load introduction and plate buckling for I-section girders and box girders, plated structural components subject to in-plane loads as in tanks and silos.

History

Superseded by BS EN 1993-1-5:2024 This document is considered to be a first generation Eurocode and is the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. A period now exists to prepare for the transition between first and second generation Eurocodes. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS EN 1993-1-5:2006+A1:2017. To enable EN 1993-1-5+A1:2017 to be used in the UK, the NDPs have been published in a National Annex, which has been issued separately by BSI.
