Abstract

Updates guidance relating to specification, installation and maintenance of thin surface course systems. Covers benefits, limitations, specification, inspection, design preliminaries, overlaying concrete, and maintaining existing pavements.

History

Wales only IANs are issued by the Welsh Government. They contain specific guidance, to be used only in connection with works on the motorway and trunk road network in Wales. IANs must be read in conjunction with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW). Applicable to Wales only. Wales only Interim Advice Notes were previously published by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG). Revises Chapter 6 of HD 37/99 Pavement design and maintenance. Surfacing and surfacing materials. Bituminous surfacing materials and techniques (including Amendment No 1 dated May 1999) (HA, 1999) 7.5.2.
