Abstract
Examines the situation surrounding the establishment of marine protected areas in UK waters, where Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) have been introduced. Specifically looks at: the issues surrounding the creation of a network of Marine Conservation Zones, including the difficulties in gathering evidence and in balancing environmental and socio-economic interests; and how to achieve effective management, supervision and enforcement of the Zones, and the need for an effective strategic approach to the overall development of the network of Zones.
