Abstract

Gives general fire precautions in healthcare premises, in particular implementing policies and programmes for dealing with the life-threatening situations presented by fire in an extremely vulnerable environment, and for ensuring that staff at all levels receive appropriate and regular training in fire safety and evacuation procedures.

History

Version 3.0: April 2004, updates version 2.0 issued in December 1999. SHTM 83 also includes part 2 which is published as a separate document 'NHS Scotland Firecode: general fire precautions - fire safety training' (HFS, 2017). The suggested timescales for staff training given within this document have been replaced by those in SHTM 83 Part 2. NHS Scotland Property and Environment Forum is now known as Health Facilities Scotland.
