Abstract

Gives design methods for the design of joints subject to predominantly static loading using steel grades S235, S275, S355, S420, S450 and S460.

History

Superseded by BS EN 1993-1-8:2024. This document is considered to be a first generation Eurocode and is the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. A period now exists to prepare for the transition between first and second generation Eurocodes. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS 449-2:1969, BS 4604-1:1970, BS 4604-2:1970, BS 5400-3:2000, BS 5950-1:2000 and DD ENV 1993-1-1:1992. To enable EN 1993-1-8 to be used in the UK, the NDPs have been published in the National Annex, which has been issued separately by BSI. Amendment 16291 is Corrigendum No. 1 dated June 2006 - Implementation of CEN corrigendum December 2005. Amendment 16571 is Corrigendum No. 2 dated September 2006 - Revision of national foreword and supersession details. Amendment dated 28 February 2010 - Implementation of CEN corrigendum July 2009. Amendment dated 31 August 2010 - Correction to 'brace failure' equation on Table 7.14.
