Abstract
Appeal against a council’s refusal to relax requirement B1 with regard to the refurbishment and extension of a three-storey, four bedroom, end-of-terrace house. The proposed work involved replacing existing staircases with a new stair constructed so that the ground and first floor stairs form a straight double-flight. Remodelling necessitates the loss of partition walls so the ground floor has no enclosure. Fire protection equipment was proposed in lieu of this.
