Abstract

Looks at plans to refurbish RMJM's Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh. Work is due to start on site in summer 2009 so that it can serve as a training centre for the 2012 Olympics and as a venue for Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games. The plans during the refurbishment, to be carried out by S&P Architects with Buro Happold, include two replacement pools constructed using water-retaining concrete with sand cements and screed render, a solar thermal roof to pre-heat domestic water, a combined heat-and-power system and a grey-water recycling system, fan-coil units and the installation of precast-concrete spectator seating.
