AJ Specification
Relates to The Level Centre, situated on a site which was formerly a dairy, in Rowsley, Derbyshire. The zinc-clad Level Centre is a set of studios for people with learning disabilities in the East Midlands. Groups will travel in to make use of the new arts technologies it provides which will enable participants to create and perform with others several miles away whom they may not have otherwise met. Building features include a rectangular top-lit range of rooms for events and performances which are accessed from a double height 'foyer' with clerestory lights. Over to the other side is an administration and services block which has a curving external wall extending into a walled courtyard, and the 'nose' of the development housing three lettable creative studios. Architect: Clash Associates.
First produced in 1895, the Architects' Journal features comprehensive building studies, and in-depth technical articles.
