Identifies factors affecting method of construction. Discusses perimeter construction methods for domestic-scale (blockwork walls, in-situ reinforced concrete and precast insulated panels) as well as large and/or deep basements (steel-intensive, diaphragm walls, contiguous bored piles and secant piles). Considers noise resistance, thermal performance, ventilation, fire safety and means of escape, daylighting, drainage, heat-producing appliances, and vehicle access.
