Abstract
Sets out recommendations, advice and guidance for the purchase, use and donations of furniture and textiles in healthcare premises. Provides the necessary technical information to ensure the appropriate codes of practice and standards can be selected, and supporting information on various European product certification marks/schemes in use. Details the requirements of the Medical Devices Directive (93/42/EEC) and General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC).
History
Supersedes NHS Estates' HTM 87. HTM 05-03 consists of ten parts: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, K and M. To be read in conjunction with HTM 05-01 and HTM 05-02 which are also part of the Firecode suite. Department of Health is now known as the Department of Health and Social Care.

The Department of Health was committed to improving the quality and convenience of care provided by the NHS and social services. Its work included setting national standards, shaping the direction of health and social care services and promoting healthier living. Publications included Space for Health: Technical Manuals, as well as the Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memorandums, and White Papers. They were renamed to the Department of Health and Social Care. However responsibility for technical guidance was then transferred to NHS Improvement in February 2017 which is now part of NHS England and NHS Improvement.
