Abstract
EU Directive 2004/54/EC on Minimum safety requirements for tunnels in the Trans-European Road Network was devised as a result of tunnel fires in Mont Blanc and Tauern in 1999 and St Gothard in 2001. SI 2007/1520 transposes the EU directive into UK law. Considers suitable safety measures to ensure tunnel safety.
