Planning Policy Statement

Abstract

Aims to assist in the implementation of the Regional Development Strategy (RDS) by meeting the range of regional housing needs in the supply of new housing in the most sustainable way. This will be achieved through the promotion of housing in the urban area, promoting a mixed-use approach to development, and encouraging the development of balanced local communities. The PPS sets out a series of regional housing policies to be applied in these processes.

Will be cancelled by Strategic planning policy statement for Northern Ireland (SPPS) - planning for sustainable development (DOENI, 2015) when all eleven councils have adopted a new Plan Strategy for the whole of their council area. Policy H3 superseded. Related to the following: Equality impact assessment on planning policy statement 12 (PPS12) - housing in settlements (DRDNI, 2005); Planning policy statement 7 (PPS7): Quality residential environments (DOENI, 2001); Planning policy statement 8 (PPS8): Open space, sport and outdoor recreation, and Planning policy statement 13 (PPS13): Transportation and land use (both DOE, 2004). The Department of Environment assumed responsibility for this Planning Policy Statement (PPS) from the Department for Regional Development on 15 January 2008.
